3 Essential Oils Necessary for Travel
Forget all the needless beauty products and creams. I know firsthand how much valuable space they can take up. Essential oils go a long way, they are compact and they can solve a multitude of issues. Here are my favourites:
Lavender oil → Been wearing the same shirt, pants and possibly underwear for a few days now? This smell works better than deodorant when dabbed under armpits or on clothing. It’s also a calming oil that doesn’t have an intense smells like patchouli or bergamot; however, for those who don’t like the scent or those who use it to sleep, try Rose or Jasmine. Both are subtle and sweet oils that’ll make you smell fresh.
Argan oil → After several bouts of food poisoning and traveling through various terrains and climates, my skin looked terrible. It took me a long while to repair it until I started using argan oil. I now know to bring it on my travels next time as this is a whole package beauty-keeper deal. 1-2 drops massaged on your face keeps it hydrated in drier environments, protected from the sun and neutralizes oily complexions. It also speeds up the healing of scars and it's rich vitamin E content is great for rough, splitting hair and broken nails.
Besides helping you maintain supple healthy skin and nails during travel, it’s great for everyday use. I used aloe vera, fish oil capsules, multivitamins, a strict diet and more to help clear my skin but only when I eliminated all those methods and simplified with argan oil, it began to heal.
Make sure to rub it in gently and on damp skin for better absorption.
Tea Tree oil → No one should travel without this. Anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-a lot. My traveling buddy fixed his foot fungus problem by rubbing the oil between his toes, on his socks and in his shoes. I brushed my teeth with it to get rid of bleeding gums from poor brushing habits while moving around. But its uses are exponential. Got lice? Use tea tree oil. Got bed bugs? Use tea tree oil. Wanna prevent bed bugs? Drop some tea tree oil on your pillow and bedsheets. Got a burn or weird mould growing on your clothes (or even on your body)? Use tea tree oil. Got a sunburn or itchy bug bites? Use tea tree oil. Just make sure it’s diluted in equal parts water as it can burn you.
